RONNIE O'SULLIVAN is through to the Northern Ireland Trophy quarter-finals after a routine win.
The world snooker champion and No.1 was nowhere near his sparkling best at Belfast's Waterfront Hall, but he was good value for a 5-3 victory over Cambridgeshire's Joe Perry.

The 'Rocket' compiled breaks of 132, 54, 66 and 81 to safely progress, while Perry, a World Championship semi-finalist last season, mustered just one break of 50 in eight frames.

"It was a bit of a stop-start performance, but I'm happy these days. I'm more optimistic because I know I can play a lot better," said O'Sullivan. "I made a lot of mistakes, it felt like quite a static performance."

O'Sullivan was due to play Barry Hawkins today after he defeated Ryan Day 5-3.
