FOUR of the top-rated young snooker players in Scotland were presented with trophies on Friday, August 1, by Scotland's World ranked No.2 Stephen Maguire, to mark their success as winners and runners-up in the National Championships held in Glasgow – in May!
The cash for the trophies presented in the Q Snooker Club in Glasgow was raised by the newly-formed Save our Snooker (SoS) group, set up to raise awareness of their concerns at the ongoing problems besetting the game in this country. The Scottish You
th Snooker Association was also involved in raising the cash to buy the trophies for under-16 National champion, Michael Leslie (Bonnyrigg), and the beaten finalist, Scott Donaldson (Perth). The under-14 winner was Ross Muir, who beat his colleague and schoolmate from Musselburgh, Greg Ritchie, in the final.

The AGM of Scottish Snooker Ltd is due to take place in Glasgow on August 24 and the signs are it could be a stormy meeting. Last week's presentations were made possible by the actions of a group of snooker enthusiasts, concerned at the ten-week delay.

But that is only a part of wider issues currently being raised in the game of snooker.

Meanwhile, Steve Baillie, the chairman of SSL, called a meeting which was held at The Creamery Snooker Club, Union Street, Bainsford, Falkirk last Sunday.

It is believed individual "official" trophies from the ruling body were finally handed over to eight winners and runners-up of National finals.
