GLASGOW captain Ally Kellock was quick to pay tribute to stand-off Dan Parks after the Warriors mastered the stormy conditions to open their Magners League account with an away win at Newport-Gwent Dragons.

Kellock and co ground out a 12-6 success in horrendous conditions at Rodney Parade – with Scotland No.10 Parks emerging as the star turn.

Parks ignored the lashing rain and swirling wind to bang over four penalties, however it was his ability to adapt his game to the elements that earned him the man-of-the-match award.

Kellock said: "We knew the Dragons would be tough opponents on their own turf – and we knew how hard things would be because of the weather. But Dan controlled the contest superbly and made sure we got our rewards when the chances came along."

Kellock was backed up by coach Sean Lineen, who said: "It was never going to be the prettiest rugby match of all time, however I was really proud if the way the guys played the conditions. The defence was outstanding and Dan produced yet another very special performance."

Jings, has Frank Hadden become a roving reporter for SOS? It's interesting, though not a little puzzling, that DP kicks 4 penalties and becomes man of the match, yet Chris Paterson, in similar weather, is pilloried by certain elements of the Scottish rugby "support" for kicking 5 penalties - apparently forcing Edinburgh into over-reliance on his boot. I would also imagine that some of the Glasgow squad might sometimes wonder if there's only one player in their team.

I was at the Edinburgh match on Friday. I assume that the reporter (and Kellock) are talking about rather more than kicking goals with respect to Parks. If he managed to adapt to the conditions and run the show then he did more than Godman or any other Edinburgh player did. I'm no Parks lover but he does attract stupidly crass levels of bile from the likes of Francis.

less of the conspiracy theory, no. 1 - even Jonathan Davies made him the man of the match, and he's not a noted DP fan.

Best and worst of Parks. Early doors he tried to fly hack and completely missed an admittedly rubbish pass from McMillan. As usual refused to put his body on the line to secure the ball. However his control of th game ball in hand was superb - right up until he threw the intercept pass that if it had gone to anyone but a donkey would have lost the game.
Good point about Jonathan Davies #3- the obnoxious little ferret has been nearly as critical of Parks as he was of Brendan Laney - but he recognised Parks had done far more good things than bad on Friday

#1 There is a slight difference between the Paterson and Parks performances. Parks controlled the game and Glasgow won. The same can not be said for Paterson and Edinburgh.
