RALLYING: Aberdeen’s Dave Weston fended off a late charge by Dumfries youngster David Bogie to win the RSAC Scottish Rally by 15 seconds, writes Jim McGill.
It was the Aberdonian’s third victory in ‘The Scottish’, joining Roger Clark, David Llewellyn, Hannu Mikkola and Jonny Milner in grabbing a trio of wins in the Dumfries event. “David made us work hard right through the day,” Weston, the 2005 Scottish champion, said after controlling the six-stage event, which covered 46 miles, in his Ford Focus World Rally Car. “He put us under pressure midway through the event, but we turned the pace back up over the penultimate stage and that really was enough.”

With Weston not registered for this year’s championship, Bogie’s second place was enough to clinch full points and close the gap to current leader, 1990 champ Jimmy Girvan. The Inverness driver finished the day third, 10 seconds adrift of Bogie.
