NEW stand-off Frazier Climo made a brilliant start to his Ayr career by masterminding their well-merited triumph over the rusty Borderers.
He almost put his side ahead after only 10 seconds, narrowly failing to get his fingertips to a charge-down loose ball.

Climo snatched the spotlight by rattling up 13 points in quick succession. He banged over two penalties as Melrose struggled to cope with the increasing pressure. And he had the Millbrae crowd on their feet in the 18th minute when he pounced for a try after chasing Ryan Holland's kick ahead. Lock Scott Sutherland then added a second score for the seasiders as he capitalised on another excellent chip, this time from scrum-half Ally McFarlane.

Melrose looked more stubborn after the restart, with their pack competing on equal terms. But they had little to show in the backline and the only matter to be resolved was whether Ayr could earn the bonus point.

They could only add one more touchdown, however, with Andy Wilson skidding over.
