GORDON Smith has not given up on securing a sponsor for this season's Scottish Cup after revealing the lack of one last term cost the Scottish Football Association £1 million.
SFA chief executive Smith is running out of time to convince a backer to bankroll the competition before the first round gets underway. The draw takes place on Monday, with ties scheduled for the end of the month.

The Scottish Cup has been without a sponsor since Tennent's ended their 17-year association with the competition after the 2007 final. The SFA has had offers for the rights but none matching what it believes them to be worth.

"We're quite confident we're going to get a sponsor and it's just a case of working on it," said Smith during an interview for a documentary entitled Gordon Smith: From Player to Power, which is being broadcast by BBC1 Scotland tonight.

"It's hard economic times at the moment, it's not easy to get somebody just to come up with the money."

In a way, the blue bigots are indeed the backers of this tournament.

They progress as a result of a catalogue of pro-Rearrangerz "honest refereeing errors".

(Aye, right).

People like Craig Levein come out swinging and tell it like it is. Like we all know it is.

The pro-Rearrangerz blazers whack Levein with a massive fine.

Free speech yir @rse. The truth hurts? Aye - it hurts Levein's bank balance.

And the fines are then used to subsidise this competition.

And by "subsidise", what we really mean is pay the hospitality costs for all the pro-Rearrangerz "neutralz" from various neutral institutions.

Oh aye - and the costs for a second shoe. EACH!

Bto still gloating I see! Remember what goes around and all that, anyway how is the sudoku going?

As for smith (above), what kind of a statement is this to make. Its hard economic times at the moment, it's not easy to get somebody just to come up with the money. Is this not the same guy who wanted to bring over Argentina for 1Mil and for the fans to foot the bill In a credit crunch?

From Player to Power indeed! Should be from Diddy to To$$er!

Hate to be a snitch and all that, but HT need's to take a look at the mini leagues table, the guy who is at the top (hibeymuss) joined on with 14 points, the true leader of the league should be geogiesfinest or something like that with 10 points.

So if he doesn't get to read this let him know will ya, he should talk with hibeymuss first before he acts. It's 11pm over here and I'm off to catch a z.......

In some ways that sad act BTO is correct.

Rangers and sellic do sponsor the gfa- through payments for favourable and "honest mistake" refereeing decisions.

Would it not be best for the parties to come clean so wwe can call the tournament- the gfa cup- sponsored by bigitory?

Getting back to the point of the report, I don't think in the current economic climate any queue will be forming up outside Gordon Smith's door. I think he needs to get out around some of the businesses in Scotland, or further afield if necessary, and show potential investors how being involved can benefit their organisation, only when he does that will he be able to guage the interest.

...... and the Rangers fans are in fact ****s.

The more posts I read from "ra faithful", the more I realise that they have no idea that EVERYBODY not associated with Castle Greyskull finds Rangers and their follow-followers to be one of the most objectionable groups of people in the western world. They have no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

Let's be clear - the Rearrangerz "stranglehold" on cup competitions is, in fact, a referees' "stranglehold" on cup competitions. Without the help of the GFA and their corrupt officials, the success rate of Rearrangerz would drop markedly. The League Cup curently in your trophy room being a case in point. You did not win it fairly. You could not win it fairly. But a corrupt official decided you should have it anyway.

Get rid of corrupt officials and the sponsors will show more interest.

Except that will never happen, for as long as the show is run by the GFA.

Hello lads,

Let me say that it is getting a little tiresome reading that the clubs outside of the OF are all diddy clubs.

True they may lack the financial clout of the the Tic or the Gers and the 50-60k seater parks, but most of the clubs such as the Dundee clubs, Hibs/Hearts, Killie, Dons etc. all have a terrific history to the support that follow them, and each have contributed to Scottish footballing success in years past.

We dont seem to have a problem signing the "diddy teams" (not my phrase) best home grown talent and improving our own sides with those players.

Due to finance players will be sold, it has always been this way for the provincial clubs.

I wonder how good the Hibees would be today with the players they have sold to the OF over the last couple of seasons.

Anyway I think the provincial clubs who make up the SPl do a great job in allowing young Scots players to play and learn and improve at their craft.

D'man #15 well said, it's perfectly fine for a wind-up and a bit of banter it is expected, but to call the fan's of other clubs diddy's,sheep ect is in my book over the top.

As you can see from my post I too use such terms of endearment, but only to all who deserve it, and for sure smith deserves it these fans don’t.

BTW, did you break 90?
And,.................................it's still

4 In a row coming your way!

16 Cal.

No a 95, and the CSC won for the first time in 3 years.

Just under 6k raised between the 2 clubs for the Children's Aid Charity.

I know its early days but the 3 matches I have seen you're mob play they have looked fairly ordinary.
