CSABA LASZLO stressed today that Scotland manager George Burley should have no fears about turning to Christophe Berra or Michael Stewart in the white-hot atmosphere of Skopje's City Stadium.
The Hearts pair travelled to Macedonia with the national squad this morning ahead of tomorrow's opening World Cup qualifier.

Berra has an outside chance of starting the match, although Burley is expected to prefer to let Celtic's Gary Caldwell and Stephen McManus continue their club partnership in central defence with David Weir injured.

As a late addition to the squad, Stewart is almost certain to begin on the bench but Laszlo knows both players would be reliable options for Scotland if called upon.

"They can cope with international football and they can take more experience from this environment," said the Tynecastle manager. "The national coach has taken them into the squad, so they are able to play. I am happy about this, it's good for both players' development.

"Whether they start or don't start is a decision for the national coach. He is a good coach and will make the right decisions for the country."

Berra's role as captain of Hearts has helped the player mature over the last year, while Stewart is now playing some of the best football of his career under Laszlo's tutelage.

"To be captain of the club and be in the national squad, for a young guy like Berra it's good for his development. The games give him confidence," continued Laszlo. "I have also been very pleased with Stewart. He is a guy with experience but not so many caps. If he plays his best football he can play many more games for Scotland."

Meanwhile, Hearts forward Mike Tullberg has returned to Denmark for further treatment to a persistent muscle injury. He hopes to attain full fitness as soon as possible.

The on-loan Reggina player ruptured a thigh muscle against Kaiserslautern during July's German tour and has yet to play competitively for Hearts. Laszlo had hoped the player would be fit to face Falkirk on Saturday week but that now looks doubtful.

• HEARTS supporters have been advised by the club that season ticket sales will continue until 5pm on Friday, September 19.

Over 10,000 season tickets were purchased over the summer and Hearts continue to offer fans the chance to secure a seat at Tynecastle for the remainder of the campaign, which has begun promisingly with three league wins recorded from the opening four matches.

Season tickets are available now by calling 0871-663 1874 (option 1) or by visiting www.heartsfc.co.uk to book online. Alternatively, visit the Tynecastle ticket centre.

Personaly i think berra is a better defender than caldwell is and i also know a couple of Celtic fans who agree with me... More pace, power and reliability.

Stewart if given a game will rise to the ocassion and being the sort of player he is, I think that if he gets a run out and plays well then it will be terrific for Hearts and have a big bearing on our season. Stewart is a real talent but his attitude has held him back for a long time but he seems to raise his game on the bigger stages.

When hearts had Gordon, Pressley, Webster and Hartley all in the Scots team we found a level of confidence and consistency at club level that had been absent from our team for quite a while and I hope that Mickey and berra can do the same.

Good luck lads, I hope you get a game and I hope you both do enough to cement your places.

i remember that stephane adam had a really bad muscle tear in his leg that gave him severe trouble, this tullberg "muscle rupture" might be similar. adam came back from a long period out of the team and lasted about half an hour in his first game back and was out for ages again. they can't take any chances with tullberg i suppose.

Good experience for the Hearts lads! I hope they get a game, but even if they don't just being part of the Scotland set-up can only be good for Hearts!

Stewart is a player that's promised a lot and like Hartley before him he's maybe had to wait late into his career to play his best football! Berra has an old head on young shoulders and has taken the capataincy in his stride!

I hope there's good times ahead for both players and above all for the Jambos

Hearts are SCREAMING out for a quality striker.

If we are relying on Mole (headless chicken), Nade (never be fit or motivated) and Tullberg (Pinilla Mark 2) then it's another bottom 6 finish if you ask me!

What's next - a recall for Clum????

Let's just see what happens with Tullberg - we don't have to be too negative at this stage.

Well done to Berra. Caldwell is a joke - he's only gets in the Celtic team because Strachan is not a good manager. Berra should take Caldwell's place in the Scotland team.

Good luck to Scotland hope we manage the first 3 points of a difficult group to qualify from. Hit the ground running if we can get get any sort of a win but am very confident about this one. Iceland i think will be a more difficult tie but again quite confident we can sneak 3 points in that one too.

Hopefuly we get to see Berra and Stewart but they will have to bide there time and take any opportunity when it comes along but they would both enhance the first team no problem.

The Glasgow Rangers player Kirk Broadfoot has today revealed that he has been part of the Channel 4 TV show faking it for the last 3 years.

The player broke the news today at a hastily arranged press conference as it emerged new Scotland manager George Burley had drafted the " player " into his squad for the up-coming world cup qualifiers.

Broadfoot who told the waiting press that he was in fact a carpet fitter from Fife said " This experience has been great but I now feel that I would totally be out of my depth and there was no way I could let the country I love so much down by pulling on the dark blue jersey"

Channel 4 have defended there decision to allow Broadfoot to move to Rangers from St Mirren.

Saints have issued a statement saying " The program makers approached us with their plan; we were only too willing to be a part of their experiment. We started that season with 4 or 5 new players and knew one was from the programme". The only real surprise said saints boss Gus McPherson is that the player is not Will Henning considering how he has had a terrible start to the S.P.L season.

Rangers would not be drawn on the future of the player at Ibrox only saying in a short statement " Kirk has been one of our most consistent performers over the last 18 months". Gers boss Walter Smith was unavailable for comment.

The S.F.A chief Gordon Smith was quick to back Burley after some sections of the tartan army turned on the manager and pointed out what they have always known that any carpet fitter from Fife could get a game for Scotland if he had worn an OLD FIRM strip.

Hibernian were quick to reassure fans that Colin Nish has not also been part of the experiment

i'm thinking he is that prat bubblin fibs, same hallmarks on the pointlessness and known as a serial gobsheeeit on here could well be him as he'll be overly excited about the ratboys return and think it funny to post all that pesh about Tullberg pretending to be a Jambo. Could be wrong but suspect i could be right, knew it wasn't Serg as he/she is so obvious.

Time to dump he/she/it in the who cares box and get back to the story.
Hope our two lads are enjoying working with the national squad.
Dont see them getting a sniff in either game but if you aint in it you canny win it.

Riordan - Bamba,

You actually need to win games and things as far as bragging rights go for me.

5 points clear of the Hoobs and 1 point of the top of the league.

Hibs have signed a failed Celtic player and Bamba... Yup standards are pretty low if that's what constitutes bragging rights in Lochend these days.

Oops where did i put that Zemmama?
