Published Date: 13 October 2008
HIBS star Chris Hogg was today expected to return to training, boosting hopes he will be ready to face Capital rivals Hearts in the first derby of the season on Sunday.
Hogg was forced to have a ten-day lay-off after complaining of problems with his eyesight, the result, according to medical staff, of a hefty challenge during Hibs' Co-operative Insurance Cup clash with Morton. Although the 23-year-old defender continued to play, he increasingly found problems judging the flight of the ball in the air, particularly on bright days, and sat out Hibs' victory over Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

Doctors advised him to have ten days of total rest, a period which has now elapsed with Hogg expected to report with his team-mates for the start of the build-up to the derby after they enjoyed a long weekend off.

Boss Mixu Paatelainen, however, insisted no risks will be taken. He said: "Chris has rested for ten days so he should be okay but we'll speak with the medical staff before he starts training again. If he needs another couple of days then that's what we will do."

And rather than put a question against Hogg's fitness, Paatelainen believes the enforced break will have done him the world of good. He said: "It's sometimes good to have a break like that, you return fresh and ready to go. I don't think having that time off will have taken anything away from Chris' fitness and, in any case, we have another six days before the game so there shouldn't be any problems."

Sol Bamba and Dean Shiels were missing when the squad returned this morning, Bamba returning from the Ivory Coast where his country made it through to the next African round of World Cup qualifying with a 3-0 win over Madagascar although the Hibs star didn't even make the bench.

Shiels was an unused substitute as Northern Ireland went down 2-0 in Slovenia but will stay with Nigel Worthington's squad for the second game in their World Cup qualifying double-header against San Marino in Belfast on Wednesday night.

Merouane Zemmama, on loan to Al'Shaab in the United Arab Emirates, was, however, in World Cup action, scoring on his international debut as Morocco beat Mauritania 4-1 in Rabat to move on to the next qualifying round as the African nations are whittled down from 53 to five for the finals in 2010.

Meanwhile, Paatelainen today revealed he expects to extend striker Ross Campbell's loan period with Dunfermline. Campbell joined the Pars for a month, scoring his first competitive goal in a 1-1 draw with Morton.

Pars boss Jim McIntyre is keen to keep him at East End Park and Paatelainen said: "I haven't had a chance to speak to Jim having been at Hampden on Saturday and then the SPL coaches forum at Gleneagles yesterday. But I'm sure we'll have a chat this week. I'll also speak to Ross to see how he feels but if all parties are happy then it will probably happen."

Hibs reserves play Rangers at Almondvale tomorrow (kick-off 2pm).

I hope he plays, along with Bamba and Jones. Should give Hearts a good chance with them at the back!

Is it not about time Harold Bishop was killed off? You are becoming an increasingly obnoxious neighbour!

Oh yeah the hibs defence must be losing sleep over the prospect of that mighty jambo strike force! It's always so difficult to for a defence to play against that on form one up front striker.
Bring it on.

quote....'It's not called the Pink Bus Shelter for nothing.'

Well, allow me to retort.

1. If you look closely from inside and out, it's mostly Maroon.

2. No buses stop inside Tynecastle, only in Gorgie Road.

Therefore, if it's not called the Pink Bus Shelter for nothing, then what is it called the Pink Bus Shelter for????????

Rambo, come on now. You know as well as I that it was pink! also the curved tin roof resembles the old style bus shelters. I'm sure your lovely new stand will be more akin to a modern bus shelter tho..

Ahhh everton-jambo.....

A true pimpel on the face of society if ever there was one.

Cany you tell me what makes YOU so confident of a resounding yam victory on Sunday then please?

Going on Hearts recent form and the increasingly inane ramblings of your manager I wouldnt get too carried away if I was you.

My opinion is that it will be a tight game as both sides are pretty poor at the moment, however being a forever hopeful supporter I predict Hibs may just sneak it by the proverbial "odd goal"....

However as usual there have been the usual suspects on from both sides proclaiming 7-0, 5-1 drubbing, demolishion derby, etc. etc etc....

Those that have partaken in this nonsense will of cours have to fear the reaper come next monday should the find themselves on the losing side no matter how narrow the margin of victory.

The real fans will as always be here to have of their wee gloat or to "face the music" as the case may be, however everton the likes of you will be nowhere to be seen should it be your team that loses.
16

everton-jambo,

13/10/2008 15:15:35
#15 heee hawww you are ..with two teams as sh..e as that.. did i say it was going to be 0-5 or 6 no..of course i have to be confident otherwise whats the point of having anything to do with football you retard...give yourself a shake and support at least 1 decent team
17

hibbyspurs,

13/10/2008 15:18:58
hmmmmmm and what have either of your two teams done in the last season or so?

Hibyspurs teams 1 trophy last season
Evrton - Yambo - nil points......

Enough said eh?

Nothing wrong with being confident but theres also room for realism...

I confidently predict BOTH my teams will finish above yours this season even though SPurs are struggling just now. As for Hibs well we're already above you eh?

jog on now small boy....
18

hibbyspurs,

13/10/2008 15:22:55
ohhh and by the way everton, whilst you didnt actually give a scoreline you did say this at #4:

"if we crunch junkie riordan early doors as he is your only threat, and play ball on the eck agaisnt your two clumsy defenders it will be easy..not for the first time at that dump have we had it easy.."

The repeated use of the word "easy" surely implies you forsee a thrashing being handed down by Hearts to us does it not?

Sorry if my analysis of your use of English has you floundering to make sense of it as it's clearly above your level of intellect.

19

everton-jambo,

13/10/2008 15:29:15
#17 18 dreamer you are ...check out how many times we have finished above you lot over a lengthy period does that not count...mmmmmmmmm..as for me saying it would be easy yes i did say that but only if they play a certain way as the fibs have not set the league alight have they..and ive been to most of our games and we have not played badly in most and with a few good players to come back, yeah i am realist and confident
20

everton-jambo,

13/10/2008 15:31:05
and with spurs all but down the fibs with a few defeats aint out of safety either..i have not experienced relegation ,have you?

Then pray explain how your recent form is so bad if your playing so well? 0 points out of the last 6 I believe courtesy of whopping at Tannadice 3-0 (try and tell me you played well there please as I have several friends who were at the game and said you were poopoo).. Also a defeat off Killie at home in a game most pundits havs said should have been won by a wider margin. This is hardly confidence inducing stuff if you ask me.

I'm unhappy with Hibs recent form but at least there is real fight in the team for the most part and it is this I think which could just tip the balance in Hibs favour on Sunday. We score first your mob will just chuck the towel in (again)......

Also, your stats are really interesting (not), you continue to live in the past and I'll live in the present looking at the future.

Also showing how young you are there lad if you havent experienced relegation. Wasnt it 1981 you last went down and if memory serves you couldnt even get back up in one season, it took two years out of the top flight for your team to get back. However I seem to recall the last time we went down we showed in one season why we are club that will always be worth of a place in Scotlands top flight by demolishing nearly every team in every game that season (the odd 2-1 humbling by Stranrar excepted of course).

Yes and Everton are guff as well.

#23 Come on you should know better than engage with Everton ars#hole. he is on a par with your own resident retards(one or two appear above). Good news is that he will be making a T!T of himself in Zante ;one less UNION JACK WANNAE BE CURRENT BUN at the game(might be only five now!!!)
Although i have to say i'm not so sure re spurs finishing above everton.
Will be keeping my head done this week. Will post on Hearts performance Monday which ever way it goes. Hibs will be rightly so favourites but i would rather be the underdogs.
Sensible post finished: what about MIXUS comments re your keeper creeping up behind Jones ,shouting & frightening the big man(saturdays news i think)?
BTW i'm not exagerating....some Hibby on referring to Hearts & Christmas whereas if thats no pantomine what is?

Dont worry, the lillywhites will come good (maybe :-$), once we get shot of Eunday bobs.... Great decision to give Jol the dan mcak though eh? How ar Hamburg doing this season under his management one wonders?

Yes, likewise I will be round to comment on Sunday's game on Monday, win, draw or the other....
